Despite the very active - and successful - promotion of American,
Australian, Canadian and New Zealand F&B products in Korea, European
F&B products have remained relatively unrepresented at F&B
trade shows in Korea. To demonstrate Europe's standing as a world
leader in the F&B industry and answer the growing demand in Korea
for high quality European products, the European Union Chamber of
Commerce in Korea (EUCCK) has decided to organise a
at Food Korea. So far, Food Korea 2002 is the only exhibition in Korea
where European F&B products are promoted in a joint pavilion. |

(Driving terms for imported food in Korean Market)
- Domestic production capacity decreased
- Food Retail and service sector has been modernized
- Westernizing lifestyle |
| KOREA is one of the world¡¯s largest markets for imported food and
beverages. It depends on imported products for almost three-quarters
of its food and drink, the third largest market for imported consumer-food
in the Pacific region. Korea is becoming more dependent on food imports
as domestic production declines. The prospects remain good due to
the demand for western-style foods, the modernizing of the retailing
and food service sectors. Therefore, Korea is expected to grow considerably
in importance as a destination for European Food and Beverage. Key
opportunity includes following;Meat, Bakery ingredients, finished
bakery products, luxury food items such as dairy food (cheese, ice-cream
and other dairy products). Steady increase in the per capita consumption
of dairy products will drive demand for imported products. Ice-cream
is increasingly popular. Wines, beers and juice. The consumption is
set to increase, since these items are introduced to the young generation.
Demand for health drinks will be driven by increased demand for healthy
lifestyle.Potato, citrus fruits and confectionery (chocolate &
sugar confectionery). Hotels and restaurants provide good opportunities
for quality European Produces. |
