H.E. Charles Humfrey, Head of Mission and Consul-General of the British
Embassy, Mr Wienand Peter, Deputy Chief of Mission, Economic and Financial
Affairs, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Mr Christophe

Organised by Korea Resources Recovery and Reutilization Corporation
(KORECO), Environmental Management Corporation (EMC), Korea Institute
of Environmental Science and Technology (KIEST), and Korea Environmental
Preservation Association (KEPA), the 24th International Exhibition
on Environmental Technologies (ENVEX 2002) opened this year from June
22nd to 25th at COEX in Seoul. |

|
| Over the past few years, the number of overseas exhibitors and visitors
has expanded continuously (this year, the number of foreign exhibitors
saw an increase of 13.7% as compared to the previous year), making
ENVEX the largest exhibition for the environmental sector in Korea.
This year, 262 exhibitors from thirteen countries (Korea, Japan, Germany,
the UK, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, USA, Canada, Australia,
Spain and the Ukraine), participated in ENVEX, up from 226 exhibitors
in 2001. Due to the Worldcup craze that coincided with ENVEX 2002,
the number of visitors was down to about 31,000 people from 38,068
in 2001. |

As one of the largest environmental markets not only
in Asia but worldwide, there is a strong interest in Korea for environmental
technologies and products. Especially in those areas where European
companies are strongly represented, such as water quality and waste
treatment. See here for more information on prospects for the environmental
market in Korea.

industry both within Korea and abroad.
Since 2000, the EUCCK has organised European Pavilions at
ENVEX to show-cast the outstanding technologies and products
of European companies, and to support European companies looking
for opportunities in the Korean market.
Apart from the European Pavilion, ENVEX now also features an
